Shared Budgets & Roles

Invite people safely, choose their access, manage requests, and transfer ownership.

Three kinds of budgets

Hosted subscriptions include Personal and Household budgeting. The Business plan also adds a separate business budget under the same subscription, so you do not need a second personal plan. Switch between budgets from the budget switcher. Each keeps its own accounts, envelopes, and history.

Four roles, four levels of trust

Owner: Full control, including members, sharing, and deleting the budget.

Manager: Can edit everything in the budget, but can't manage members.

Viewer: Sees everything and changes nothing. Good for an accountant or a partner who just wants visibility.

Child / Contributor: Can add a normal transaction and delete only a transaction they added. They cannot edit transactions, make transfers, or change envelopes, goals, accounts, settings, or members.

Invite people by email from Settings → Household. Everyone signs in with their own account.

Envelope requests: how a contributor asks for changes

A contributor can't create envelopes directly. Instead, they file a request(a new envelope, a rename, or a goal change) from Settings. Owners and managers see the request with Approve and Decline buttons; approving applies the change instantly. It's a built-in allowance negotiation.

Handing a budget over

When a kid grows up, or a budget simply changes hands, the owner can pick a member and hand the budget overfrom Settings. That member becomes the new owner, all the history stays, and the previous owner is removed in the same step. It's deliberate and confirmed twice because there's no undo from your side afterward.
